Mould and damp treatment
Mould and damp can be prevented in a number of ways, but any structural remedies are the most important to solve first, as any remedial treatment like keeping wall surfaces warmer or with a more alkaline surface will not be able to make up for troubles caused by leaks, major cold-bridging etc.
Auro have a three stage process that uses borax to treat the infestation and then a paint that is more alkaline in order to stop mould returning. Click here for the technical details on how to use the three products together to help fight the battle against mould.

Thermilate insulating paint additive
Thermilate® is an insulating paint additive for house paint. It is used for both interior paint and paints for exterior use. Thermilate® turns a painted surface, such as walls and ceilings in your home, into a thermal paint barrier. It claims that it can save you up to 25% on your heating bills and make 40% savings in cooling requirements! However, we believe that these are unrealistic claims but our experience is that it is good at keeping walls that bit warmer and hence acts as a good weapon in the fight against mould.
Simply mix into your paint and apply as usual. It maintains the breathability of natural paints which is great.
The finish is affected by adding the Thermilate, the surface is rougher, but this slight negative is easily outweighed by the positives. We would recommend using this on solid external walls, especially on the north side of the building. Use a mix on a whole wall at a time as the finish is noticeable if seen next to a normal paint finish. Click here to buy Thermilate insulating paint additive.
