Natural insulations

Natural insulations have the advantage over many man-made ones because they carry a range of properties that just are not available to synthetic ones. For a full list of information on natural insulations click here for a PDF. We have also produced a table on non-natural / conventional insulations and an overall comparison table that looks at cost, thermal performance etc.

Sheep's wool insulation

We work in partnership with Ty Mawr in Brecon to supply Welsh Sheep's Wool insulation. This is made by Thermafleece especially for Ty Mawr and contains 75% Welsh wool. Wool is an excellent insulator, you only have to see the happy sheep in Welsh hill farms to know that, but also has certain other characteristics that make it stand out from the crowd. Notably it is able to retain its insulation properties if damp. Many others do not do this. Click here to see the natural insulations available through RDE

Hemp insulation

We work in partnership with Isonat in North Wales to supply hemp insulation. Hemp has excellent acoustic properties as well as being a good insulator.

Flax insulation (IsoVlas)

Flax is a similar product to the hemp, but looks a bit coarser. It has the advantage of retaining its insulation value whilst damp (like the sheep's wool). Click here to see the natural insulations available through RDE

Warmcel (Recycled paper insulation)

We supply Warmcel 100 which is a DIY loose fill insulator. If you require it to be sprayed on then this service is available from Pen-y-coed insulations in mid Wales. Click here to buy Warmcel through RDE.
