Fakro

Fakro are one of the largest manufacturers of roof windows in the world, but are not so well known in the UK. This is a real shame as their product has a number of differences from Velux.

Fakro are BBA registered and also use FSC timber in their windows. They also produce a triple glazed window (with appropriate seals) that is suitable for Passiv Haus designs. The windows are also designed top be bottom opening and this makes them easier to open for many.

Velux

Velux are the best known roof window manufacturer in the UK. They are changing their wood sourcing over to FSC and soon all of their factories will only be using FSC timber. In response to companies like Fakro they are also having their products BBA rated.

Velux also offer a solar thermal collector that is designed to look like their normal roof lights, thus allow you to have a solar system that visually matches your potentially existing roof lights.
